Linus Lohoff
Personal Background: Linus Lohoff was born in Germany in 1985, where he spent his early childhood. During early teen years to his young adult life, he spent six years in Recife, Brazil. He then moved back to Germany where he has lived since, except for a brief period where he lived in Barcelona, Spain from 2009-2010. He is completely fluent in German, English, and Portuguese. He is also an intermediate Spanish speaker. In 2005 he did an internship at Chmilewski Fotografieremscnerd, where he grew his love for photography, before freelancing and studying at BAU-Escola Superior del Disseny.
Style: Linus Lohoff is a straight photographer. This is because he takes photographs of everything. Often, he takes photos of people on the streets he walks down, or of objects he comes across. He also sets up vibrante photos, and brings animals into his studios to photograph such as dogs and deer. His photos have squared formats and are very minimalist. Linus Lohoff also does not consider himself a photographer, but instead an amateur who likes to take photos
Philosophy: Linus Lohoff draws his inspiration from different things for different projects he works on. Most of his projects are random, and often a bit odd. This is him embracing his personality, and drawing inspiration from how unusual the world can be. But, he also draw inspiration from personal experiences. For his series Graving, he drew inspiration from a bad relationship he couldn't get out of because he was addicted to it. In all of his photographs, he try's to insert an "Aha-effect."
Influences: Linus Lohoff has influenced me in my work to not try to cram all I can in a photo. His minimalist style shows me that photos with the least amount of things in them, can have the most amount of context to them. He style of photographing whatever sticks out to him inspires me to do the same. And his favorite frame, a square, is also one of my favorites. Linus Lohoff pays special attention to the type of frame he uses to best format the type of story he is trying to tell through the photograph, which makes me think what best formats what.

Compare and Contrast: My photos and Linus Lohoffs have some pretty big differences. In the Okay sign and Hand 1, the persons hand I used is at a slightly different angle. In Hand Sign and Hand 3, Hand 3 is closer to the camera. In my photos the hand is a different shade than the persons in Linus Lohoffs. My persons hand also has nail polish on it. In all sets of pictures, the background colors are the same.
Personal Artist Statement: I took Hand 2 with a completely white background so it would be easy to take the blue and add it to my picture. Blue is my favorite color, and I love Star Trek, which os where the hand sign is from. This is the reason I used this hand sign. When taking the picture, I had trouble deciding how to get a clear background like Linus Lohoffs. In the end, I decided to paint on the same color he used as I liked it a lot, and the clearness of the photo makes the hand even more the focal point.
